La Casa Healing House in Deming recently celebrated 25 years of support to the Luna County community. The Healing House opened in 1998 to help provide assistance to domestic violence survivors. The program provides emergency shelter, supportive service programs, immigration services and much more. Advocates are available 24 hours a day to assist those in need. The Grant County Community Foundation will be hosting a “Acting Strategically” workshop for nonprofits on Wednesday, May 17th. The workshop is to help provide guidance on how to create planning for long-term success. A big Congratulations to Animas High School students who recently attended the 47th annual Skills Day in Safford. The event featured 42 different categories, including art, biology, graphic design, welding and woodworking. Over 400 students from 19 schools competed in the contest. Animas students won in the Color Matching, College Art, Spanish Poetry Reading, Chemistry 1, Spanish Written Test and Botany categories.

La Plata Middle School recently held its National Junior Society Induction Ceremony. The National Junior Society elevates a schools commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship. Thirty five 7th and 8th grade students were honored and recognized for their commitment to their school and community.
