According to the New Mexico Department of Health COVID-19 Vaccine Dashboard, as of February 27th, Grant County has fully vaccinated a total 2,462 residents for a total of 10.7% of its population. In addition, Luna County has fully vaccinated 1,895 residents for a total 10.1%; Hidalgo County at 436 residents for a total of 12.9%; and Catron County for a total of 422 residents for a total 13.3%. The registration for vaccines can be found at vaccinenm.org through the New Mexico Department of Health.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed House Bill 11 into law that will provide $200 million in grants for to New Mexico businesses meant to ease the hiring and/or rehiring of employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a release, each business may qualify for up to $100,000 to be distributed in four quarterly payments. Some guidelines include:
- The business must be operating in New Mexico with fewer than 75 employees per location
- The business must show a loss of revenue for at one quarter between 2019 and 2020
- Funding must be used for reimbursement of rent, mortgage, or lease obligations
- The grant must be accompanied by job creation for each quarter prior to one of the quarterly payments
The Silver City Rotary Club is featuring Heidi Ogas, President of the High Desert Humane Society to talk about the challenges currently facing the Human Society during their weekly Zoom meeting tomorrow at 12 noon. According to their website, the High Desert Animal Shelter, a 501c3 non-profit organization, is located at 3050 South Cougar Way in Silver City, and is approximately 3,000 square feet of living space for the animals with separate quarters provided for adoptable dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, stray animals, and quarantined animals. In addition, the facility has outdoor dog runs, a kitty play yard, and a pet memorial garden and crematorium. The public is always invited to attend Rotary meetings, which are held on Tuesdays at noon.
