The Gila National Forest, Glenwood Ranger District is reporting that the Catwalk Recreation Area is temporarily closed due to hazards from trees that were affected by the Catwalk Fire over the weekend. The purpose of this Order is to protect the public’s health and safety due to wildland fire activities in the restricted area. This temporary health and safety order will remain in effect until March 31st, 2022, or until rescinded, whichever occurs first. Comcast has announced plans to equip more than 30 locations across New Mexico with WiFi-connected “Lift Zones” before the end of 2021. These zones are created to provide safe spaces equipped with Free WiFi to help low-income students participate in distance learning. According to a release, “Comcast has worked with nonprofit, community, and city partners to provide free WiFi in safe spaces for students and adults to get online, participate in distance learning and workforce development trainings, and access to critical resources.” Locally, the partnering locations include the Silver City Senior Center, and El Grito Early Learning Center in Silver City. This initiative provides free connectivity inside partner centers for the next three years.
The Grant County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for appointment of four members to the Tu Casa Advisory Board. The vacancies that need to be filled are as follows:
- One Advocate with lived experience in substance abuse disorder
- Two Community Members
- One HMS Provider
The term of service for each position is 3 years. Tu Casa serves the four-county region of Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, and Catron and provides substance abuse and mental health treatment. Interested individuals may obtain an application and a copy of the Advisory Board Charter from grantcountynm.gov
