Grant County youth members of 4-H have been awarded for their exemplary efforts in completing projects of their choosing that include record keeping. In order of the age category the entrants were as follows:
- Cloverbud: Olivia McDonald
- Novice: Kayleigh Massengill and Weston Fell
- Junior: Joseph Colter Massengill; Koda Fell; Krysten Jones; and Sam McDonald
- Senior: Kylee Jones and Lizzy McDonald
The winners for each age division were: Novice, Weston Fell; Junior, Sam McDonald; and Senior, Lizzy McDonald. While the younger Cloverbud youth are not able to compete, Olivia McDonald received a participation ribbon for her submissions in addition to 4-H promotional items. Each youth who submitted a record book receives a certificate, completion pins for each project, and a custom embroidered jacket with their name and the 4-H clover. According to a release, 4-H teaches essential life skills and accurate record keeping. Each member document their goals, activities, expenses, and income associated with their projects as well as reflecting and writing about their experiences. Congratulations to all the Grant County 4-H participants and winners!
PNM has as announced the winners of the 2020 Business Energy Efficiency Star Awards. There were 47 businesses statewide that saved a cumulative of 34.7 million kilowatt -hours of energy this past year. According to PNM, that is enough energy to power 5,126 homes a year, the equivalent of removing 19.2 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the air, and savings 11.4 million gallons of water. Some of the local winners include: Mimbres Memorial Hospital; D.H Lescombes Winery & Tasting Room; Deming Public Schools-Hofacket High School; Hidalgo County Courthouse; and Saucedo’s Supermarket in Lordsburg.
This Saturday, March 13th, the Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District is hosting a volunteer trail cleanup of a portion of the Continental Divide Trail. Volunteers will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the Pinos Altos Fire Station located at 4759 NM Hwy 15. The project includes brushing and tread work. Information regarding necessary items to bring and what to wear are listed on the Gila National Forest Facebook page.
