For the fourth consecutive year, Western New Mexico University (WNMU) welcomed students from Mescalero Apache Schools and Ruidoso High School as they continued their annual tradition of harvesting wild agave, or mescal, on land owned by WNMU’s close community partner, Freeport-McMoRan. During their visit, the students toured various academic departments and engaged with WNMU students, faculty, and staff. Situated within the ancestral homelands of the Mescalero Apache, the WNMU campus provided a meaningful and culturally significant setting for this annual event.
