The State of New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department has announced that visitation, activities, and testing changes are now in effect in the state’s long-term care facilities. All LTC residents who are fully vaccinated may have in-room visits with fully vaccinated visitors without supervision, personal protective equipment, or social distancing. In addition, fully vaccinated staff can congregate with other staff members without wearing PPE. Residents who are not vaccinated must be able to social distance and wear PPE during in-room visits. Facilities must stop visitation if there is an outbreak within the facility and follow outbreak procedures before resuming visitation.
The Department of Interior, National Park Service is reopening more of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument effective 8:00 A.M. on Monday, June 28th. Cliff Dweller Trail with access to the Cliff Dwellings, the Visitor Center, and the Contact Station will be fully opened. In addition, the park will continue to monitor CDC and recommendations from public health authorities to modify its operations accordingly. The Cliff Dweller Trail is known to be a moderately strenuous one-mile round trip, and in usually takes 1.5 hours to complete. Visitors will have until 5:00 P.M. to exit the monument. Visitors/users of the Middle Fork Trail are requested to park in the Gila Visitor Center parking lot rather than the trailhead parking lot, as the road to the trailhead will remain closed for visitor safety. The Luna County Detention Center has achieved a 77% fully COVID vaccination rate for 259 detainees out of a total population of 337. According to a release. Their medical team partnered with Walgreens to administer the shots and educate the detainees about the importance of the vaccine. The detention center is working with the local Walgreens to provide biweekly vaccines and currently hoping to offer the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to all detainees during intake and the Moderna vaccine as an option for female detainees.
