The Grant County Art Guild Gallery will be celebrating World Music Day on June 21st with musical guest “Rise n Shine “who will be playing authentic folk, country, rock and blues music. The Gila National Forest has partnered with Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers (CCC) to bring students from all over the world to help out in a variety of capacities at Beaverhead Ranger Station and the Reserve Ranger District. Students will spend the next four months working on the outdated seasonal housing facilities by replacing flooring, basic plumbing, fixtures, appliances, cabinetry and much more. These projects will not only help them learn new skills, it will also prepare them for their future careers. 

Silver City High School was recently selected as one of  47 schools in New Mexico to receive the “Innovation Zones” award by The Public Education Department. Schools who receive this award will be working closely with local communities to determine how the public education system should serve students. Silver High School will receive funding to help improve students’ education and provide a better school experience as well as providing more college and career preparation education. 

The Silver City Masonic Lodge recently donated $1000 to El Refugio Care Center. The funds are to help the center throughout the year, so they can purchase items that are needed to help Grant County domestic abuse victims and families. The items purchased will be used to  help families with life development skills, children’s activities, safety planning, educational classes and providing necessary referrals and resources.
