The 7th annual Aldo Leopold FREE “Fishing Day” will be held this Saturday, June 3rd, at Lake Roberts. Registration will begin at 7:00 a.m. with fishing starting at 8:00 a.m. The lake will be stocked with retired Gila trout. For more information call 575-388-8201.
Congratulations to Tricia Elbrock from Animas, who was awarded the “Diamond in the Rough” award at the Women in Agriculture Leadership Conference in Albuquerque. She has been a 4H leader for nearly half a century and served on the Hidalgo County Fair board for two decades while also volunteering for other organizations. At the conference, Mrs. Elbrock was honored for her leadership work and all she has done to help improve Hidalgo County agriculture.
The Deming Luna County Economic Development organization will be having a “Meet and Greet” on June 6th. The event will be to introduce the newly established High School Apprenticeship Career Consultant program through New Mexico Workforce Connections. It will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Marshall Memorial Library and all employers and working age youth are encouraged to attend. For more information call 575-546-8848.
Single Socks, a Silver City nonprofit thrift store awarded $25,500 in grants to Grant County anti-hunger organizations. The organizations that received the grants were The Commons, Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Parish, The Gospel Mission, Supporting People In Need Program, Mimbres Valley Health Action League, Aldo Leopold School and Center for Frontier Communities. Single Socks has given away over $562,000 to anti-hunger organizations since it first opened in 2009. The goal of these grants is to help these organizations end food insecurity within the community.
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the Deming Little League who finished their regular season and handed out championships to both baseball and softball divisions. Deming Little League had two girl and boys minor division and major division teams that captured the league championship.
