In Gila National Forest news, as of 6:00 A.M. this morning, the Black Fire has covered 317,676 acres with 48 % containment. There are currently 1,098 personnel working the fire. According to the U.S Forest Service Gila National Forest Smoke Outlook, “there was significant fire growth yesterday, but Southwest New Mexico should experience overall Good air quality today and tomorrow. Silver City, the Mimbres Valley, and the Gila Cliff Dwellings area should continue to have overall good air quality today and tomorrow. Kingston to Hillsboro and Truth or Consequences south to Caballo will likely have overall good air quality today, degrading to Moderate smoke late tonight until tomorrow morning when we should have good air quality. Winston and Chloride will likely have good air quality today and tomorrow.”
The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office will be continuing a maintenance operation project to place “chip seal” pavement on various roadways in Grant County. The NMDOT has a planned roadway closure in place for NM 15 from milepost 7 (Pinos Altos) to the intersection of NM 35. Beginning today and continuing Thursday, June 16, Tuesday, June 21, and Wednesday, June 22, 2022, NM 15 will be closed from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Detour will be on NM 35 to NM 152. Closure will be in place for the safety of the traveling public and crew in the area. Center striping will not be present in construction zones. PNM offers a recycling program for refrigerators and freezers for residential and business customers. Through the program, PNM will give customers $75 for their old working refrigerator or freezer and will pick up their old one for free.
