The United States Forest Service is reporting today that the “Tadpole Fire” is approximately 3474 acres at 0% containment. There continues to be air operations with helicopters and air tankers on standby. The protection point on the east side of the fire is to keep the fire on the west side of NM Highway 15 with Sheep Corral Road as the northern boundary of the fire. Containment roads remain the same as yesterday and include:

  • New Mexico Highway 15 on the east
  • The East side of Moore Canyon on the south
  • Sheep Corral Road on the North
  • West side is being scouted for further containment

The fire is moving away from Pinos Altos in a northeasterly direction and is not moving towards any subdivisions in Silver City. There are absolutely no plans for evacuation. The Luna County Board of Commissioners is meeting in regular session at 10 a.m. tomorrow in a virtual format. The board will recognize the following four employees who will be receiving service awards: David Montano from the assessor’s office; Samantha Grimes, from the detention center; Robert Ramirez and Robert Nordorf, both from the Luna County sheriff’s office. In addition, the oath of office will be administered to the following Luna County Sheriff’s Office appointments; deputies Paul A. Garcia, Lorenzo Rivera and Antoinette Calderon.
