Western New Mexico University recently hosted the New Mexico Basic Economic Development Course that brought officials and community leaders from all across New Mexico. The course, which is accredited by the International Economic Development Council, provided intensive training on how to select the right combination of strategies to cost-effectively create jobs in New Mexican communities. The goal was to provide the tools and strategies needed in order to help New Mexico leaders make a difference in their communities. For more information on the program, visit the WNMU website.
New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico Counties during the month of August. The goal is to bring awareness to these issues in an effort to reduce impaired driving-related fatalities and to help change society’s attitude about driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Deming Mainstreet will be sponsoring their annual “National Night Out” event on Tuesday, August 1st. This is a family free event that will have music, food, dancing, games, activities and will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Luna County Courthouse Park. The Village of Santa Clara recently approved the installation of a road between the Dollar General and the Armory, during their recent town meeting. The new road will be installed to provide better and faster access to the Forgotten Veterans Memorial located at Bataan Memorial Park in Santa Clara. A BIG THANK YOU to all who came out and made the July Community Cleanup event in Silver City a success. There were 14 individuals and 2 teams that volunteered their time and efforts to this project. Over 240 pounds of trash and debris were collected from the Big Ditch, San Vicente Creek Trailhead, Highway 180 East, Mile Marker 109 and Market Street.
