The Town of Silver City will be having a public meeting on Thursday, July 27th at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the town’s Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan, a key municipal planning tool which will establish priorities for future infrastructure projects. The meeting will take place at the City Hall Annex second floor conference room and the public is encouraged to attend. New Mexico Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham, recently signed over 200 bills into the 2023 legislative session, one of them being House Bill 4, The New Mexico Voting Rights Act. This act will allow anyone convicted of a felony the right to vote once released from detainment, will enact the Native American Voting Rights Act, allow voters to put down official buildings as addresses, expand early voting opportunities and automatically register New Mexicans as voters. The Gila National Forest is partnering with Bat Conservation International to implement habitat recovery and restoration projects across the Forest. Bat Conservation International will oversee a contract for aerial seeding of 7,617 acres of land where the Black Fire burned at high severity to help improve conditions within degraded watersheds. This seeding, which will start on July 28th, will assist with recovery of surface vegetation, reducing further watershed erosion and sedimentation. Western New Mexico University Board of Regents recently approved a new list of degrees and certificates as part of the university’s New Degree Program Five Year Plan. The new programs will include medical coding, sustainable energy technology, wildland fire science and Spanish and Geographic Information Systems Science.
