The New Mexico Department of Health issued a COVD-19 update for July 20th that announced 137 new cases statewide. Locally, the only reported new cases were 2 in Luna County. The Department of Health has identified at least one positive COVID-19 case in residents and/or staff in the past 28 days at Fort Bayard Medical Center in Santa Clara. In COVID vaccination news, 72.1% of New Mexicans 18 years and older have received at least on dose of the COVID-19 vaccination with 64.1% having received the full series. In Grant County, 69% of residents have received at least one shot and 63.6% have completed the series; in Luna County, 73.5% received one shot with 61.1% completing the series; in Hidalgo County, 59.2% have received one shot with 54.8% having completed the series; and in Catron County 44.6% have received one shot with 40.3% completing the series.

The Catron County Sheriff’s Office has introduced a Text Tip program as a confidential crime reporting tool. Any and all crime-related or suspicious activities may be reported through the Text Tip program that will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality with no names or contact information being recorded. Catron County residents are urged to use the system by texting 575-517-0513 or sending an email to catron.sheriff@gmail.com. In addition, all emergency situations should be directed to 911.

Beginning on Monday July 26th, Grant County will begin a construction project involving ADA and drainage improvements at Baatan Memorial Park in Santa Clara. This project requires the grounds, facilities, and parking lot to be closed, ensuring the safety of both the public and the construction crews. It is estimated that the closure will last between 90 to 120 days.
