Calvary Baptist Church in Silver City will be hosting a “Candyland” Vacation Bible School for Kindergarten to 6th graders. There will be games, crafts, bible stories, prizes and much more. The Village of Santa Clara recently planted 25 fruit trees for the community to enjoy thanks to the generous donation made by the Grant County Neighborhood Orchards Project. The trees are located at Central Park, next to the Santa Clara Senior Center, along with a new walking path, a new irrigation system to water the trees and basketball hoops. The Silver City group, “the 30 something”, recently awarded a total of $90,000 to three nonprofit organizations in the Grant County area. The group, which has about 90 members, was created 5 years ago to help make a difference in the community by helping local nonprofits. Each year the group votes and awards $30,000 to nonprofits who they believe help enrich the lives of Silver City/ Grant County community members. This year, The Commons, The Gomez Peak, CDT, Dragonfly Trails Project and The Mimbres Agricultural Cooperative Market were selected and received $30,000 each to help them improve their organization so they can better serve the community. U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez recently announced the introduction of the Community Facilities Program for Rural Clean School Bus Infrastructure Act to help expand clean school bus charging infrastructure, like electric chargers and compressed natural gas tanks. The bill will help provide electric school buses to New Mexico schools, especially in rural areas, in order to help reduce the air pollution that children breathe in while riding the bus.
