The USDA Rural Development, Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments and the Silver City Realtors will be hosting a Southwest New Mexico Resource Housing Summit on July 20th. The summit will provide information regarding home repairs, homelessness, housing programs and will include a variety of housing agencies. The Gila National Forest – Wilderness Ranger District will be conducting several prescribed fire pile burning projects beginning July 21st until the month of August, in the Gattons Park wildland urban interface project area. The goal of the prescribed fires is to help restore fire back to the landscape within fire-adapted and fire-dependent ecosystems. There will be intermittent delays on New Mexico Highway 35 and smoke will be monitored to ensure that the New Mexico Environment Department’s Air Quality Bureau are met. Deming and Luna County have been working on building new attractions in the city to provide more activities for youth and to help attract visitors. The city recently completed work on the new “Inflatable Water Park”, which is now open, and are working on adding a new skatepark, roller rink and batting cages.
