The Hurley Town Council recently approved a water development agreement with Freeport-McMoRan during last week’s town meeting. The agreement will give the town rights to 200 acre-feet of water per year on property owned by the Chino Mine and access to two wells that the town will construct. The infrastructure of the wells and the transporting of water into Hurley is set to be completed within a three year period. For more information go to, website.
The New Mexico State Bar Foundation’s Legal Resources for the Elderly Program will be hosting a free workshop for New Mexico residents that are 55 and older tomorrow, July 18th. The workshop will cover powers of attorney, advance health care directives, institutional Medicaid and will be available via video and teleconference. Congratulations to Silver City’s Youth Mural Program, who is the New Mexico Outdoor Equity Fund recipient. Youth ages 6 to 12 years old, plus apprentice interns aged 13 and 14, have been selected to complete artwork that will end up as themes in this year’s mural project. The work created will be to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Gila Wilderness and will be featured on the picnic tables at the Aldo Leopold Vista Picnic Area. The City of Lordsburg has been working on improving the quality of water in the community. Utility workers are currently doing a pilot study with reverse osmosis to remove any contaminants from the water which will help improve the water quality. The city is also working on replacing the old pipelines so the water can flow properly, which should be complete in June 2024. For more information on the project, contact the Lordsburg City Hall.
The New Department of Agriculture is hosting a New Mexico Agritourism Symposium in August for those who are interested in getting into the agritourism industry. The symposium will include roundtable discussions, networking opportunities, dinner and a presentation of “Taste the Tradition” and “New Mexico-Grown Tradition Logo Program”. This event will take place at the Mesilla Valley Maze in Las Cruces and is free but prior registration is required by July 31st.
