The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument will be giving a free guided walk of the dwellings on Friday, July 14th. This event will give participants the opportunity to learn more about the natural and cultural history of the Gila Forks. PNM is offering financial assistance through their “Good Neighbor Fund” to help low-income families get caught up on past-due electric bills. Each year the Good Neighbor Fund distributes hundreds of thousands of dollars to limited-income families in New Mexico. Through the program, qualified PNM customers can receive up to $370 credited directly to their bill once per year. The Silver City Museum will be having a “Clay Art” event on July 15th for children and families. Participants will be able to create their own felted wool vessel as well as pinch pots. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has opened the Bear and Cougar Rule to develop prospective amendments to season dates, maximum harvest limits, manner and method of take and other hunting regulations for these species. The rule opens once every 4 years and the department is currently seeking public comments on possible revisions. Some of the revisions being considered are, potential increase in harvest limits in specific Bear Management Zones, allowing the use of traps and snares to harvest cougars and prohibiting use of hounds during deer and elk archery season. The New Mexico House Republicans have announced a Parental Notification and Consent form that is now available to all parents and guardians of students returning to school in 2023-24. The form is aimed to allow parents to make the decision of whether or not they want their child involved in certain controversial topics and medical treatments while at school.
