Western New Mexico University recently spotlighted 2016 alumna, Amy Page for the numerous awards and recognitions she has received throughout the years. Amy attended WNMU as a James Madison Memorial Foundation Fellow, which is one the most prestigious fellowships in the country, and earned an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies. Over the years, she has won the New Mexico National History Day Teacher of the Year award numerous times and was named Senior Division National Patricia Behring National History Day Teacher of the Year in 2022. Ms. Page is currently a History teacher at Moriarty High School where she educates her students about the importance of history.

The Board of Commissioners of Luna County will have a Regular Meeting on July 13th to discuss off-highway vehicles in the community. The meeting will be at 9:00 a.m. at the Luna County Courthouse and is open to the public. For more information, call 575-546-0494.

The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District has lifted the closure at the Mogollon Box Day Use Area. Although it is open, the public is advised to exercise extreme caution being that work is still being done around the area. Repeated flooding around Mogollon Box is possible during peak river flows, so flood-prone areas may be temporarily closed. For more information, call 575-388-8211.

Future Forge will be visiting the Silver City Public Library to demonstrate what they do at their maker space. They will be teaching participants about 3D printing, modeling, general tools used to create art work and much more. This event will take place on July 13th at 3:00 p.m. and is open to the public. The New Mexico State Police have teamed up with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and the New Mexico Trucking Association (NMTA) to make drivers aware of a new bill that will focus on “truck tractors”. As per New Mexico Senate Bill 102, which took into effect this month, a truck tractor, which is being driven on a roadway that is part of the national system of interstates, shall not be driven in the left lane of the roadway  except when overtaking and passing another vehicle; there is merging traffic that  requires the use of the left lane to maintain safe traffic conditions; in preparation for a left turn; and the roadway is not within the city limits of a municipality or upon a county road. If this new law is not observed, the truck tractor driver may be fined. State Police will continue to work with the NMDOT and NMTA to make sure the new bill is being followed to improve safety for the public. For more information about the bill, go to website.
