At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a new total of 148,499 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 1,184 new cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has increased 10 new cases for a total of 974 positive cases; Luna County has increased 7 new cases for a total of 2,416 positive cases; Hidalgo County remained the same for a total 254 positive cases; and Catron County remained the same for a total of 59 positive cases. In addition, there are 740 current COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide.
The Luna County Emergency Management Office has received notice from the New Mexico Department of Health stating they are ready to start COVID-19 vaccinations of their Phase 1-B population that is comprised of all essential workers. Individuals are requested to fill out an online roster and will later be contacted with instructions as to when the vaccine will be available. Silver City Mainstreet is presenting the Annual Urban Challenge Fun Run virtually this year to celebrate Territorial Charter Day. This year the 5K downtown run can be done on a treadmill or out on a trail between February 5th and 11th. Participants will submit a photo of themselves on their run via Facebook messenger or email. The entry fee is 3 cans of food that will be donated to the Grant County Community and WNMU Food Pantries. In addition, there is an optional Victorian era exercise costume promotion whereby participants can take a photo of themselves on the run in the costume.
