Happy New Year from Silver City Radio. Here is a look at some local headlines.

With colder weather outside, it has never been a better time to find a warm place inside to read a great book. The Friends of the Silver City Library can help with that. They are having a book sale January 8th from 10 to 2 at 1510 Market Street across from Cheyenne Street. There will be books for ages two to adult.  Please wear your mask and come browse through the many books. You can fill a bag of your favorite books for just $2.00.

Over Christmas the Grant County Sheriff’s Department gave out Christmas tubs filled with toys, things for the home and food to needy families. Sheriff Frank Gomez expressed appreciation to those who participated in the Christmas basket distribution and hopes that it brightened the day of those who received these donated items.

The Silver City Police Department gave out 70 coats to local children in need this holiday. These gifted coats were distributed to children at six schools in the Silver Consolidated School District, as well as El Refugio.

The City of Deming recognized two employees for their many years of service. Lucio Cabellero and Gilardo Pacheco were recognized for 20 years of outstanding service. Lucio is a heavy equipment operator for the Streets Department. Gilardo is with the Parks Department.

First New Mexico Bank brought holiday cheer to non-profits in the community. First New Mexico Bank donated funds to Friends of the Healing House and Community Health Care Foundation. Friends of the Healing House supports the Luna County domestic violence shelter. The Community Health Care Foundation has for its purpose improving health care and quality life.
