Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.

At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a new total of 156,157 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 1,208 new cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has increased 25 new cases for a total of 1094 positive cases; Luna County has increased 26 new cases for a total of 2,505 positive cases; Hidalgo County increased 4 for a total 276 positive cases; and Catron County remained the same for a total of 64 positive cases. In addition, there are 682 current COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide.

The New Mexico Department of Health released its COVID-19 vaccination distribution plan for Phases 1B, 1C, and 2. In addition, the Department announced that New Mexico has officially moved into Phase 1B of the vaccination sequence that includes the following:

  • Individuals 75 years of age and older
  • Individuals 16 or older with underlying medical conditions that place them at a greater risk from COVID-19
  • Frontline essential workers who cannot work remotely
  • Vulnerable populations, meaning residents of congregate care settings

Individuals in Phase 1A can continue to schedule vaccinations as well. New Mexicans are encouraged to register for vaccinations at cvvaccine.nmhealth.org.

Silver City will be seeing major road improvements begin on Ridge Road spanning from Highway 90 to Bob White Drive off of Ridge Road. The $2.4 million project includes major drainage and roadway safety improvements and is scheduled for completion by the end of August.
