The Silver City Fire Department, in collaboration with partner agencies from across Grant County, will conduct a prescribed burn at 11 Rosedale Road in Silver City on Saturday, September 27. This planned operation is part of ongoing efforts to reduce hazardous fuels, lower wildfire risks, and enhance community safety within the wildland-urban interface. The burn is scheduled to begin in the morning and continue throughout the day, weather permitting. Fire personnel and equipment from multiple agencies will be on site to ensure the operation is carried out safely and effectively.
Hidalgo Medical Services (HMS) has announced the appointment of Annette Verovich, RN, as its new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Annette has held several key positions within HMS, including Nurse Supervisor, Quality and Safety Coordinator, Infection Control, and most recently Interim Director of Nursing, where she successfully led initiatives to enhance care delivery, strengthen staff development, and advance patient safety. The City of Deming will begin road construction on 8th Street, spanning from W. Orno Road to Jarvis Street, on September 29. The project is expected to last approximately two weeks and will involve traffic delays and detours throughout the duration of the work. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area to ensure the safety of both construction crews and the public. Construction dates are subject to change without notice in the event of inclement weather.

The Lordsburg City Council recently convened in regular session to receive updates on upcoming initiatives and to adjust priorities for water projects. During the meeting, the Council heard a presentation from US Solar regarding the installation of a solar farm along Highway 70 and awarded the bid for engineering services on the Special Events Center project to Stantec. The Council also authorized a request for bids for IT services, approved an agreement with the New Mexico Department of Transportation for a $1.64 million road project, and passed a resolution to adjust USDA funds previously awarded in 2019 and 2021 for water-related projects.
