At its regular meeting on Tuesday night, the Silver City Town Council approved a resolution declaring extreme and severe drought conditions within the town and enacting related public safety measures. In response to the heightened fire risk, the Council authorized a ban on the sale and use of certain fireworks as outlined under state law. Additionally, the Silver City Fire Department’s fire marshal elevated the town’s fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective Wednesday, May 28. Under these enhanced restrictions, no burn permits will be issued, and all open flames—including campfires, charcoal grills, stoves, and underground fire pits—are strictly prohibited. The burning of yard waste is also banned. Violations of these fire restrictions may result in fines ranging from $100 to $500 and/or up to 30 days of incarceration.
