The Silver City Police Chief recently reported a notable decrease in crime across nearly all categories in 2024. The most significant reductions were seen in stolen vehicle cases and robberies. Other notable declines include a decrease in reported rapes, a drop in burglaries, a reduction in simple assaults, and a decrease in motor vehicle tampering. In an effort to enhance transparency and keep the community better informed, the Police Chief announced plans to share crime data more frequently. This initiative is supported by the department’s upgraded computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and newly implemented crime mapping software, which provides real-time visual mapping of incidents and highlights crime “hot zones” across four distinct districts within the town limits.
