May 2024 is the 6th annual National “Stop the Bleed” month and Luna County will be offering two training classes to show individuals how to stop someone from bleeding out. The classes will consist of a lecture portion followed by a skills portion and will take approximately 90 minutes. The training is free and open to all members of the community with a limited seating of 15 to 20 people per class. The first class will take place tomorrow, May 18th at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Basement of the Luna County Courthouse. The Allingham-Golding American Legion Post #18 in Grant County recently visited Cobre High School to talk to students about the Boys and Girls State leadership programs. The programs, which are for high school juniors, focus on leadership, citizenship and on exploring the mechanics of American government and politics. The National Guard team from Las Cruces also came down to introduce their recruitment team and share their stories. After the discussion, the Grant County Coalition of Veterans presented Cobre students Gabriel Chavez and Kaissa Villegas with an award to honor their commitment to enlist.
Interested in beautifying Grant County? Come join Silver City’s Pick It Up-Toss No Mas for their Spring community cleanup tomorrow, May 18th. Those interested in volunteering are to meet at the Grant County Community Foundation parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Trash bags, gloves, snacks and trash picks will be provided. After the cleanup, all trash and recyclables will be recorded, and those with the most trash collected will receive a special reward.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, Aldo Leopold Charter School is joining the mental health community to show their commitment and understanding of mental illness.
