Due to extremely high fire danger and ongoing dry weather and fuel conditions, the Gila National Forest will implement forest-wide Stage 1 fire restrictions beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 10th. Under Stage 1 restrictions, the ignition, building, maintenance, or use of fires—including charcoal and briquettes—will be permitted only within designated fire structures provided by the Forest Service in areas such as developed campgrounds or picnic areas, which are clearly marked with on-site signage. In response to the current very high to extreme fire danger, the forest will also postpone plans for prescribed fire until conditions improve and return to appropriate weather and fuel conditions. These restrictions will remain in effect through September 30th, unless rescinded earlier or extended.
