Silver Consolidated Schools recently announced its 2025 NMHSCA All-Star and All-State Basketball athletes. The district is honored to recognize the outstanding student-athletes from Silver High School and Cliff Schools who have earned spots on the esteemed New Mexico High School Coaches Association All-Star and All-State Basketball Teams. The All-Star selections from Silver High School include Angel Maciel of Silver High School, who earned a spot on the 3A/4A Boys All-Star Team, and Kianna Murillo, who was selected for the 3A/4A Girls All-Star Team. Additionally, Cliff Schools is represented by Tayson Yost on the 1A/2A Boys All-Star Team, along with Brennan Shock (1A Boys – 2nd Team) and Neysa Gutierrez (1A Girls – 2nd Team). Congratulations to all the student athletes. 

Silver City Pick It Up-Toss No Mas would like to thank all the volunteers who participated in the World Water Day cleanup event. A group of 12 volunteers worked to remove 305 pounds of trash and debris from various areas around Silver City, with a particular focus on waterways and drainage systems such as Big Ditch Park, Silva Creek, Pinos Altos Creek, and San Vicente Creek. Their hard work not only improved the health of these environments for local plants and wildlife but also enhanced the safety and beauty of these spaces for the community.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office, led by Detective Lieutenant Jason R. Jordan and Detective Randy Orosco, recently provided Cobre High School students with valuable training on crime scene processing and evidence collection to assist them in their annual USA Skills Competition. This marks the third consecutive year that the Sheriff’s Office has offered this support, reinforcing their commitment to helping local youth develop the skills and knowledge needed to become positive, responsible citizens of Grant County.

In Hidalgo County news:

Community members from across the county participated in the virtual Bataan Memorial Death March, hosted by the Playas Research & Training Center over the weekend. This annual event honors the 75,000 United States and Filipino soldiers who were surrendered to Japanese forces on April 9, 1942, and forced to endure a harrowing march to POW camps. The event served as a day of remembrance, with participants reflecting on the sacrifices made by these heroes.
