Silver Consolidated Schools will be having a “Back to Pool Days” pool party this evening, July 26th. Come join them as they say farewell to summer with a pool party for all Silver Schools families with free food, drinks and music. Bring your favorite float devices and any outside food you’d like. Lifeguards will be on duty to ensure everyone has a safe and fun time. The pool party will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Silver City Municipal Pool and has a 250 person limit, so arriving early is recommended.
During the Village of Santa Clara meeting that took place late June, Mayor Lopez reported that the AmeriCorps team had begun working on the remodeling of the Bradley Hotel and Adobe Techniques is working on the adobe repairs. The village also received a bid for the stucco and that process will begin toward the end of July as well as the installation of windows. The next step the Village of Santa Clara will be working on is grants to help remodel the inside of the hotel.
The Town of Hurley has partnered up with the Youth Substance Awareness and Prevention Coalition to bring the “Splash Out Alcohol” event on Monday, July 29th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be food, music, free swimming, activities and resources for families. This event will take place at Hurley Park, located at 300 A. Street and is free and open to the public.
The City of Deming is letting its residents know that construction on the Little School renovation and addition project has begun. Residents can expect increased traffic in the areas of Buckeye, Iron and Olive Streets during construction. Authorities are urging the public to observe all safety signage and exercise caution, as there will be heavy equipment and heightened traffic in the area. The project is expected to be completed by June 2025.

Congratulations to Hidalgo County student Journey Sheehan who was able to win a spot on the 2024-2025 New Mexico 4-H Leadership Team. Journey will represent not only Hidalgo County, but the state of New Mexico as the 4-H Small Stock Ambassador. This will be a year-long commitment in which she will travel around New Mexico to host different 4-H programs and workshops to help serve and impact over 30,000 youth ages 8 to 18. As Small Stock Ambassador, Journey will have the opportunity to network with government officials on the local, district, state, and national level as she travels with the 4-H program. This is considered a prestigious achievement in which only 10 youths hold this position a year.
