The Gila Resources Information Project (GRIP) has announced the completion of its San Vicente Creek Phase 2 River Stewardship Project. Conducted in partnership with the New Mexico Environment Department and the Town of Silver City, the project focused on enhancing wildlife habitat, reducing riparian fire risk, and protecting the water quality of San Vicente Creek and its tributaries. As part of the restoration efforts, GRIP’s contractor, Stream Dynamics, constructed three grade control structures to help restore natural stream function.

Silver City Firefighters IAFF Local 2430 proudly announces the addition of their newest member, Firefighter Noah Stockwell. Following three weeks of intensive on-the-job training, Firefighter Stockwell successfully completed instruction in the fundamentals of fire ground operations, gained proficiency with essential tools and equipment, and earned CPR certification. Throughout his probationary year, he will continue to undergo regular training with his assigned shift, participate in ongoing evaluations, and attend courses in HAZMAT Awareness and Operations, Firefighter I & II, and EMT-Basic certification.

A new community forest management plan for Hurley, developed by Integrated Biological Systems, is set to begin to help provide long-term support for both new and existing trees. Western New Mexico University (WNMU) will lead the project in partnership with the Gila Resources Information Project and Integrated Biological Systems. Priority areas identified for implementation include the entrance to Hurley, Diaz Avenue, the business district entrance and intersections, business district medians, the First Street median, Carrasco Avenue and E Street Park. Reflecting the goals of the Hurley community, the plan includes recommendations for policy development, funding strategies, community engagement, training, and ongoing support.

The NMDOT emphasizes that it will never contact individuals via text message or phone regarding unpaid violations. These messages are part of a scam, and recipients are strongly advised not to click on any links, do not answer unsolicited phone calls regarding traffic tickets or fees and to block the sender or caller. Individuals should stay vigilant and protect their personal information.
