This month, The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability is proud to recognize Mary Hancock in their Volunteer Spotlight. Her dedication, along with her warm and kind personality, greatly enhances the common’s mission, especially during their busy fundraising seasons. The Commons is deeply grateful for Mary’s ongoing commitment and invaluable support.
Last month, the nonprofit organization Single Socks made a remarkable impact with their seasonal grants program, which has proven to be an invaluable resource for the Silver City Gospel Mission. Single Socks’ generously donated over $10,000 to the mission, which will be used directly to help provide nourishment to countless households in need throughout the winter, allowing the mission to expand its reach and better serve the growing community of individuals relying on their assistance.
Twelve students from Silver High, Cliff Schools, and La Plata, accompanied by their sponsors, traveled to Santa Fe this week to participate in Grant County Days. During their visit, they toured the Roundhouse and engaged in meaningful discussions with state senators and representatives. The students also had the opportunity to meet with prominent officials, including state senators, representatives, Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales, and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. This experience offered the students a firsthand look at the workings of state government and provided them with a platform to voice their opinions and concerns.
