Gila Regional EMS recently acquired four new Stryker LIFEPAK 35 Heart Monitors and completed training on their usage. The LIFEPAK 35 is a clinically advanced, life-saving device with proprietary tools and technology built on an intuitive platform for advanced patient care. Currently, Gila Regional EMS is the only service in Southwest New Mexico utilizing these monitors. The organization aims to set a high standard for paramedic services in the region. Additionally, Gila Regional EMS is committed to advancing its services further, with plans to acquire more monitors by applying for grant funding.

The High Desert Humane Society will be having their monthly reduced rate rabies vaccination clinic tomorrow, January 11th. They will be offering a wide variety of vaccines including one and two year rabies vaccines for cats and dogs. This will be a drive through clinic and will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 3050 South Cougar Way in Silver City. 

The Gila National Forest, Wilderness Ranger District has announced that they have closed Mesa Campground for the season. Additionally, the water system at Upper End Campground has been shut off due to freezing temperatures, which pose a significant risk of damage to the water distribution system. Both Mesa Campground and the water service at Upper End, located at Lake Roberts 16 miles northwest of Mimbres, are expected to reopen in March, or as weather conditions allow.

The Youth Impact-Hidalgo County Youth Prevention Coalition organized a trip for a group of nine students from Animas and Lordsburg to attend the Vive18 Prevention Fest, a Youth Substance Use Prevention and Mental Health Conference. During the event, the students gained valuable insights into leadership skills specific to substance use prevention and mental health through a series of workshops and presentations by expert speakers. As part of the conference, the students participated in a Shark Tank competition, where they presented an event idea designed for Hidalgo County. Their proposal earned first place in the contest, securing a $500 prize to support the development of their idea.
