Silver City’s Pick It Up-Toss No Mas would like to thank all the volunteers that came out and made their July Community Cleanup event such a great success. There were 19 individuals and 4 teams that volunteered their time and efforts to help clean up Grant County. Over 1,180 pounds of trash and debris were collected from Highway 180, Highway 90, San Vicente Creek and Pinos Altos Creek. The winner for the most trash collected was team Trails and Open Space Advisory Committee.
The Silver City Rotary Club will be matching up to $1,000 in local contributions to help support the Indian Springs Ranch, Warrior’s Retreat in Mimbres. The Indian Springs Ranch provides first responders, veterans and active-duty service members a relaxing experience with therapy methods and science beauty. Donations will be matched dollar by dollar by the Rotary and will be used to support the retreat by helping veterans, law enforcement and first responders who have seen combat and other traumatic events heal mentally and spiritually.
Congratulations to the Village of Santa Clara’s August “Beautiful Yard of the Month” winners Artie and Mary Lou Kirker. Santa Clara Trustee Olga Amador presented the couple with a gift certificate and the winner’s yard sign on July 29th. The Kirker’s were chosen for having both a front and back yard that comes complete with shady spots to sit, bright blooming roses and a soft luxurious lawn.
Need to get vaccinated before school starts? The Luna County Public Health Office is offering free vaccinations for children up to 18 years old. Vaccines are offered Tuesday and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Insurance is not required but those who may have any form of insurance are asked to bring their insurance card and child’s shot record. Lordsburg was among 20 communities across the nation to receive $371 million in Transmission Siting and Economic Development grants to help advance the permitting of high-voltage, interstate transmission projects. In collaboration with other partners, with the funding the city will launch the Lordsburg Revitalization Project, which will be a comprehensive investment to renovate downtown Lordsburg and increase economic development, create opportunities for small businesses, and catalyze job growth. The funding will also be used to help Hidalgo County continue its rural senior meal programs, protect cultural heritage landmarks, support local workforce development and to upgrade public school buildings.
