Grant County Community Health Council partner, Frank Merritt, will be discussing “The Keys to a Happy, Healthy, Long Life in Silver City” to help contribute to the overall health and wellness of seniors in Grant County. The content of his presentation is based on the recent assessment of senior health needs in Grant County, recent national research on what individuals can do to secure their own happy, healthy, long life and on a WILL course Mr. Merritt taught last year. The discussion will take place on Sunday, April 7th at 10:00 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
Luna County will be having a few contests throughout the month of April in honor of all the “National” and important days the month of April celebrates. On April 11th community members can submit a photo of their pet for “National Pet Day”. Send a picture of what you are planting or taking care of for “National Gardening Day” on April 14th. Let Luna County know how you are going to celebrate Earth Day on the 22nd and show them some of your dance moves on the 29th in honor of “National Dance Day”. The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) recently recognized Deming native Richard Baca for his 50 years of continuous employment with the NMDOT and as the longest working State of New Mexico employee. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham honored Mr. Baca with a proclamation declaring March 28th “Richard Enciso Baca Day”. Mr. Baca has worked continuously for over 50 years to help ensure the safety of countless individuals of the traveling public. Congratulations Mr. Baca and thank you for your continued service to the community.

As a reminder, Compass Made is still accepting applications for their 2024 4-H Sponsorship program for the Deming Fair. Sponsorships are open to all Luna County 4-H members interested in showing rabbits, goats, lambs or pigs at this year’s Deming Fair. Applications must be turned in no later than April 8th and all applicants must be currently enrolled in Luna County 4-H.
