A group of students, faculty, and staff from Western New Mexico University had the opportunity to attend the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Institution Educators (AHSIE) Best Practices Conference in Chicago this spring. The conference provided an invaluable platform for participants to explore the creative and innovative approaches implemented at Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) nationwide. The event also allowed practitioners and educators from HSIs to network, exchange knowledge, and gain insights on effectively managing educational initiatives and optimizing grant funding.
In recognition of National Public Health Week, the Grant County Public Health Office will be hosting an Open House on April 9th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature informational tables with resources from the Department of Health, program pamphlets, and Medicaid information. Additionally, vaccines will be available for children, and guided tours of the facility will be offered. This event provides an opportunity for the community to learn more about the health services available and to engage with public health professionals.
The Silver Future Farmers of America (FFA) Veterinary Science Team has earned an impressive spot in the top 5 at the 2025 New Mexico FFA State CDE competition. Additionally, Emma Drennan showcased her exceptional skills by securing a place in the top 5 of the individual category. This remarkable achievement highlights the team’s dedication and expertise in veterinary science, marking a significant milestone in their journey towards agricultural education.
In Deming news:
The City of Deming is set to begin construction on Phase 3 of the 8th Street multi-use path next week. This phase of the project will extend from the south side of Maple Street to Slate Street, continuing on the west side of Slate Street to Hemlock Street, and ultimately reaching Nacio H. Brown Park. Construction is anticipated to take approximately 6 to 8 weeks. During this time, lane and road closures are not expected.
