The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions has released seasonal adjusted unemployment rates per county across the state. Local percentage rates were reported as follows.

  • Grant County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.5 percent in December, down from 3.7 percent in November and down from 5.6 percent in the previous year.
  • Luna County was 11.6 percent in December, up from 11.2 in November and down from 14.4 percent in the previous year.
  • Hidalgo County was 2.7 percent in December, down from 2.9 percent in November, and down from 4.1 percent in the previous year.
  • Catron County was 4.3 in December, up from 4.1 percent in November and down from 5.1 percent the previous year.

For the entire state, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.9 percent in December, down from 4.1 in November and down from 5.9 percent in the previous year. Additional data can be found online at www.dws.state.nm.us (under “Labor Market Information/Data, Statistics & Dashboards

The Gila National Forest is hosting a photo contest with the winning photograph to be used on the revised forest plan in addition to other documents and social media. According to a news release, “the Gila National Forest is searching for high quality photographs that capture the unique landscapes and the people who love, work, and play in the forest.” The contest is open to all and runs from now to March 15th. The Hidalgo Medical Services mobile health unit will be traveling around the area to administer COVID vaccinations, no appointment needed. On Monday, February 13th the mobile unit will be in Animas from 9:00 A.M. to 12 noon and Rodeo from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. On Tuesday, February 14th, they will be at WNMU from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
