During the most recent WNMU Board of Regents meeting, University President Dr. Joseph Shepard, noted a “17% increase in undergraduate enrollment for the spring ’23 semester, in-line with the continued growth in enrollment numbers with fall ’22 enrollment up 12% overall. He also reported that today’s fall hybrid commencement will include a total of 229 graduates; 153 will participate in-person and 56 will attend virtually. In addition, retiring WNMU College of Education Professor, Dr. Candelario Jauregui, received an emeritus designation.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One will be closing NM 427 “Florida Street” tomorrow, December 10th. NM 427 “Florida St.” will need to be closed from South Iron Street to South Granite Street for the replacement of the overhead powerline pole and anchor. A detour will be in place. Motorists are asked to please reduce speed and use caution in the construction zone.
As the Holiday Season hits full swing, there are several events planned for this weekend.
The Hi-Lo Silvers are performing a free Christmas Concert and Sing-A-Long at the First Presbyterian Church in Silver City. The first of two concerts this weekend is scheduled for tonight at 7:00 P.M. and the second performance on Sunday, at 3:00 P.M.
The Silver City Museum has expanded their traditional Victorian Christmas to reflect the desert Southwest and the region’s cultural diversity by hosting the “Victorian Christmas and More” event tomorrow December 10th, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. According to a news release, the revamped holiday festival features a wide variety of live musical acts in addition to activities for the children. This is a free event and open to the public.
