The Grant County Treasurer, Patrick Cohn, is reminding county residents that the first half of the 2022 property taxes were due on November 10th. To avoid interest and penalty charges, the first half payment must be paid or postmarked by the end of the grace period this Saturday, December 10th. Failure to pay will result in interest at a rate of 1 percent a month and penalty not to exceed 5 percent of the delinquent amount except when the penalty is less than $5.00, the penalty shall be $5.00. In addition, if you are not sure of the amount owed, misplaced or did not receive a property tax bill, please call the Grant County Treasurer’s Office at 575-574-0055.
In Deming news, NMDOT along with contractor FB Titan will be closing NM 427 “Florida Street” on Saturday, December 10th. According to a news release, Florida Street will need to be closed from South Iron Street to South Granite Street for the replacement of the overhead powerline pole and anchor. The planned closure on December 10th will run from 7:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. and a detour will be in place. Motorists are asked to please reduce speed and use caution in the construction zone.
El Refugio, Inc. in Silver City is looking to help spread some holiday cheer by supporting domestic violence survivors and their families through their Adopt-a-Family program. El Refugio Adopt -A- family program asks for help from local businesses, organizations, and individuals to support domestic violence survivors and their families that could use some help providing a celebration for their families. Once the donations are put together, El Refugio “Elves” will deliver the baskets to the families.
