At the time of compiling this report, the New Mexico Department of Health, announced a new total of 138,659 New Mexico COVID-19 confirmed positive cases statewide, an increase of 700 new cases. In addition, COVID-19 cases recorded locally are as follows: Grant County has increased 12 new cases for a total of 843 positive cases with 314 recovered; Luna County has increased 6 new cases for a total of 2,309 positive cases with 1467 recovered; Hidalgo County remained at a total of 229 total positive cases with 144 recovered; and Catron County has remained at a total of 55 positive cases with 19 recovered. In addition, there are currently 788 COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide.
In a release issued by the state, the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions is currently reviewing the CARES Act unemployment extension provisions contained in H.R. 133 that will bring additional unemployment compensation to over 160,000 New Mexicans. Workforce Solutions is waiting to receive necessary rules and funding from the U.S. Department of Labor. The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation will provide up to 11 weeks of an additional $300 weekly benefit to eligible claimants. Pandemic Employment Assistance will provide up to an additional 11 weeks of benefits, to a maximum of 50 weeks with required weekly certification. In addition, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation will provide up to 11 weeks of benefit, to a maximum of 24 weeks and will be available until week ending March 13th, 2021. The Southwest Solid Waste Authority will be open from 8:00 A.M. to 12 Noon on December 31st and closed on January 1st, 2021. The Cliff/Gila, Mimbres, and Tri-County Transfer Stations will be closed on January 31st and January 1st. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, January 2nd, 2021 for the Silver City Landfill and its transfer stations.
