Officers from the Silver City Police Department raised $1,500 from department’s “No Shave November and December” fund raiser event. Each officer donated $35.00 for the chance to stop shaving each month of the campaign. The funds raised were used to purchase 30 jackets for students of Silver Consolidated Schools in addition to 30 Thanksgiving turkeys for local families in need.
In Deming news, Mayor Benny Jasso presented three appointments before the Deming City Council last week that included the replacement for the Community Services Director whose contract was terminated last month. Azucena Vargas, the city’s assistant public works director will now be serving as the new Community Services Director. In addition, Raul Madrid, the city project coordinator was appointed to serve as Assistant Community Services Director and Andrea Alonzo, the city’s Human Resources and Safety Coordinator was appointed to serve as Human Resources Director. All three individuals were approved unanimously by the city council.
Silver City Mainstreet announced the winner of the 2022 “Ward A. Rudick Spirit of Christmas Award” recognizing the best of holiday window displays and decorations in Downtown Silver City. This year’s winner goes to The Ice Cream Emporium located at 312 North Bullard Street. The Ward A. Rudick Spirit of Christmas Award was established in 2018 by the Silver City Mainstreet Board to honor the work of downtown community member, Ward Rudick. Some of the other Downtown business mentioned for their festive décor this year were Dandelion Wish, Kris’s Unique Boutique, Forest Pizza, the Silver City Museum, and ZirYab’s Body Brew.
