The Gila National Forest, Silver City Ranger District has temporarily closed Forest Road 89, also known as Aztec Park Road and includes spur roads 40861 and 869 in the Aztec Park area. According to District Ranger, Beth Ihle, the closure is needed to give time for assessment and to repair the damages caused by off-route motorized vehicle use and illegal woodcutting. The closure will remain in effect until December 14th, 2021 or until rescinded, whichever comes first.

There are ample areas to cut legal firewood on other areas of the district. Fuelwood guides are available at the Silver City office or by visiting fs.usda.gov/gila.
