The New Mexico Department of Health issued a COVID-19 update for Thursday, December 9th consisting of 1,626 new cases statewide with a decreased 7-day positivity rate of 12.6%, down from 13.6%. Locally, new COVID cases were reported as follows: Grant County with 22 new cases; Luna County with 51 new cases; Hidalgo County with 3 news cases and Catron County reporting 5 new cases.

PNM has hired EDM International, Inc. to perform a virtual inspection and inventory of PNM transmission and distribution structures throughout the PNM service area, focusing on areas that may have a high potential for wildfire. EDM International, Inc., headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado, offers a wide range of utility and engineering services that include line inspection and assessment. According to a PNM news release, EDM will fly a helicopter equipped with cameras directly above powerlines, capturing continuous high-resolution images that PNM will use to review vegetation, rights-of-way, and integrity of electric structures, and develop a comprehensive plan to fix any issues that may have been noticed. The helicopters will be flying in the Southwest region of the state including Grant, Luna, and Hidalgo counties beginning on December 13th through the month of January.

The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability is urgently seeking volunteers to help unload trucks, package food, and load up cars on Tuesday, December 21st from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Mining District Mobile Food Panty located in the New Deal Theater at Fort Bayard.
