The Village of Santa Clara has been working on numerous construction projects over the past month on Bellm Street. They are currently working on replacing water lines, installing new sidewalks and resurfacing the street. Silver High School will be having a “Senior Sunrise” event tomorrow, August 10th. The high school will be giving out free burritos, shirts and sunglasses to all incoming seniors. This event will take place at 6:15 a.m. at the Silver High football field.
Congratulations to The Luna County Parents As Teachers program in Deming, who recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary. Since the program was established in 2013, they have helped over 225 families in Luna and Hidalgo counties and recently added 25 more families in the last five months. The program helps to promote optimal early development so children learn and grow to realize their full potential and helps build relationships with families to encourage parent-child interaction.
The New Mexico Public Education Department’s Bureau of Literacy and Humanities are traveling to schools across the state to help motivate students to read. One of their stops was to the Cobre District, where the director of Literacy and Humanities spoke about the importance of reading and challenged students to level up and become “superhero” readers. The Cobre District was the third stop in their journey to 72 schools across New Mexico.
A Big Congratulations to Grant County’s LULAC Council 8003 for recently being named LULAC Council of the Year at this year’s National Convention in Albuquerque. The organization focuses on issues such as education, legal reform, citizenship and political rights of Hispanics in Grant County. LULAC Council 8003 was recognized for their dedication to volunteering and for making a significant impact on the community and education.
The New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD), is providing the Collateral Assistance Program (CAP), to help New Mexico businesses secure needed funding to grow and create jobs. The goal is to encourage banks and other financial institutions to make loans to small businesses in underserved markets. The program has provided $1.8 million in collateral support for New Mexico and has helped 11 entrepreneurs secure $10.7 million to start their own businesses.
