Here’s a look at some local news brought to you by Silver City Radio.
Last Friday, the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico filed a Notice of Appeal to legally challenge the Environmental Improvement Board’s adopted “Ozone Precursor Rule.” The rule adopted earlier this year, created new air quality rules to eliminate harmful emissions annually from oil and gas production. The regulations contained in the rule were formed to curb the formation of ground-level ozone. According to a news release, Jim Winchester, Executive Director of the Independent Petroleum Association of New Mexico, issued the following statement: “While IPANM does support a fair and balanced Ozone Precursor regulation, we have no choice but to appeal this version of the rule that will force operators to plug still-productive wells and will inflict economic hardship on New Mexicans with little to no gain for the environment.”
Beginning with the 2022 tax year, most Social Security benefits are exempt from New Mexico personal income tax. The exemption is available to married couples with less than $150,000 in adjusted gross income and to single filers with less than $100,000 in adjusted gross income. Details on how to claim the exemption will be available in the instructions for the 2022 New Mexico Personal Income Tax return.
