The New Mexico Human Services Department (HSD) announced Hidalgo County Income Support Division office will open at a new location, 603 Hadeco Drive, Suite 406, in Lordsburg. Office hours will be from 9:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. every Tuesday. Earlier this year, HSD hosted a virtual community forum to obtain input on how HSD can best serve the residents of Hidalgo County. Because of the community feedback and collaboration with the Hidalgo County Manager, ISD will be available to connect local customers to much needed services. The new location is next to the DOH Public Health Office and the Women, Infants and Children office.
The New Mexico State Land Office has teamed up with Western New Mexico University to sign final lease paperwork that will allow the university to begin designing plans for the development of an 18-hole tournament ready “Disc Golf Course” in Silver City. The property covers approximately 135 acres of state trust land known as Maude’s Canyon located east of the Ben Altamirano Sports Complex. According to their website, the purpose of the State Land Office is to assist in funding public education and other public institutions. In addition, the office is tasked with overseeing 9 million surface acres and 13 million mineral acres in New Mexico.
Today starts the State Sales Tax Holiday, offering citizens a brief holiday from paying some sales taxes on goods, mainly to help parents get their children the supplies they need for the upcoming semester. According to a news release, New Mexico is one of only 17 states to offer such a break that has been an annual tradition for 16 years. This year’s sales tax holiday began at 12:01 a.m. this morning and concludes on this Sunday, August 8th at midnight.
