U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich’s staff will hold in-person Mobile Office Hours from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. this Friday, September 3rd in Lordsburg, at the Lordsburg/Hidalgo Library located at 208 East 3rd Street.  Staff will be on hand to assist residents who have questions regarding Social Security benefits, Medicare, immigration, Veterans benefits, student loans, and other federal programs. Constituents who are not able to attend Mobile Office Hours can visit the “Helping You” section of Senator Heinrich’s online office at Heinrich dot Senate dot Gov. The U.S Forest Service, Gila National Forest has announced that General Deer Season starts tomorrow, September 1st through November 29th. In addition, Elk Season also begins tomorrow and runs through January 31st. During hunting season, hikers are urged to follow the precautions that include:

  • When hiking, especially early in the morning or dusk, make sure to wear bright colors and stick to trails.
  • Dogs should wear a bright orange vest when accompanying their owner on hikes
  • If you see a hunter when hiking, call out to them to identify your location

Silver City residents are reminded that the Town of Silver City is collaborating with the State of New Mexico to assist renters with their past utility bills. Silver City renters that need help with past due utility bills should contact the utility billing department at City Hall or visit their website to download an application. Only the account holder may sign the application for assistance. The utility billing department is located at City Hall, 101 West Broadway in Downtown Silver City.
