The Silver City Police Department awarded Letters of Commendation to several Officers for going above and beyond the call of duty. Silver City Police Chief, Freddie Portillo delivered the special recognition to the following officers:

  • Detective Click – Retirement from 13 years of dedicated service
  • Corporal Anthony Flores – Officer of the Year Award
  • Corporal Manuel Jaure – Community Leadership Award
  • Xochithl Pellegrino – Civilian Employee of the Year Award
  • Brendan Shannon – Medal of Valor Award

Congratulations to these Officers for their dedication to the community they serve.

Grant County is launching a Master Planning Process for Outdoor Recreation and Trails within the county. According to a news release, “the intent of the plan is to develop a roadmap for the future of outdoor recreation and trails in Grant County that complements the area’s assets and economic development goals. The planning process is expected to take approximately one year, with adoption by the county in the spring of 2022. Public engagement will be a foundational component of the master planning process that will include virtual meetings and webinars, online surveys, and in-person site visits. Information about the plan will be posted on getoutsidegrantcounty.org, a multimedia platform that provides background information about the plan and public engagement opportunities.

The U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board have announced that Jim McIntosh of Aldo Leopold Charter School has received a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program award. As a Fulbright recipient, McIntosh will share knowledge and foster meaningful connections across communities in the United States and abroad. Congratulations to Jim McIntosh!
