Silver Consolidated Schools recently added “Wellness Rooms” to all Silver City school campuses thanks to the $6.5 million federal grant they received for mental health services. These dedicated spaces are to help provide a calm area for students to take a break, practice self-care and build skills to manage stress and emotions. The rooms are staffed with caring professionals trained to help students identify triggers and learn coping strategies so they can return to class empowered. The goal of the “Wellness Rooms” is to help students gain knowledge of their feelings, communicate wants and needs and name emotions so students can be successful in the classroom.
