The Silver City Police Department has been responding to multiple vehicle burglaries and stolen motor vehicles this past month. Being that the incidents are not in specific areas, the police are urging the public to not only lock their vehicles but to also not leave anything of value in their vehicles, including keys. The police department is asking anyone with information on these incidents to contact them at 575-388-8840.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Cynthia H. Clark as a Grant County Magistrate Court Judge. Ms. Clark has been a staff attorney with the Sixth Judicial District Court since 2022 and has served as Chief Deputy District Attorney in the Sixth Judicial District. Ms. Clark graduated from the Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, and is a member of the State Bar in Minnesota and New Mexico. Ms. Clark filled the vacancy after Judge Justin Garwood retired on August 4th. Her appointment will begin on Oct. 2nd.

The Lordsburg Harvest Church will be having a “Summer Giveaway” on Saturday, August 26th. They will be giving away free clothing, shoes and household items. This event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 701 North Animas Street in Lordsburg. 

Congratulations to the three Grant County employees who were recently recognized for their years of service and dedication. Cynthia Campos was spotlighted for her 15 years of service to the Sheriff’s Office. David Sanchez was recognized for his 5 years of service to Corre Caminos and Audra Hernandez for her 5 years of service to the Grant County Assessor’s office. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Grant County and its residents. 

Western New Mexico University’s culture compliance official for students attending WNMU on student visas, Elizabeth Woche, recently planned and led the university’s first orientation program dedicated to international students. The orientation covered topics ranging from how to access healthcare to how to open a bank account and focused on academic expectations and the support services available to students to help them succeed academically.  Elizabeth is currently working on creating an International Student Association to help students exchange ideas, create friendships and to make sure international students are taken care of on an academic level.
