Western New Mexico University will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for a new softball field. According to a news release, “the project is focused on the installation of an artificial turf field, construction of new dugouts and a press box, installation of new bleachers and field lighting, addition of a 12,000-square-foot parking lot, and infrastructure updates. The project is part of an overall Mustang Athletic Facilities Renovation that also includes space and equipment updates to the weight room, locker room, laundry room, storage room and restrooms at the Fox Complex.” The groundbreaking is scheduled for this Friday, August 19th and will be attended by WNMU leadership, President Dr. Joseph Shepard, and Mustang Athletics representatives.
Addressing the early childhood workforce shortage in the state, the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department has lunched the “Developing Futures” campaign. The recruitment strategy “highlights a varied set of career paths within early childhood education and care through the personal stories of a diverse group of New Mexicans currently serving in those roles. In addition to showcasing the fulfilling careers available in early childhood, ECECD highlights the financial, educational, and professional supports available to New Mexicans in the early childhood profession.” The Developing Futures campaign website is live at futuresnm.org and campaign advertisements are currently featured statewide on billboards, television, and online ads.
A community gathering led by Liz Mikols in Silver City, allows individuals to practice speaking Spanish. This opportunity is not a class, no instruction is given, and there are no tests or quizzes. People are invited to come, gather, speak, and have fun. All levels are welcome in addition to native speakers. The next meeting is scheduled for this Saturday, August 20th at the Silver City Public Library Community Room.
