The Western New Mexico University External Affairs in collaboration with the WNMU Office of the President are hosting the annual Grant County Workforce and Economic Development Alliance strategic planning session this Friday August 12th. The retreat will include Grant County leaders in local government, business, industry, healthcare, education, and regional workforce and non-government organizations. According to a news release, “the strategic planning will focus on critical infrastructure projects designed to strengthen the region’s economic vitality and resiliency.” In addition, WNMU President, Dr. Joseph Shepard will address the group during a working lunch session with key WNMU leaders in workforce and economic development present.
The Murray Ryan Visitor’s Center in Silver City have announced that three bronze sculptures by southwest artist Ho Baron have recently been added to the collection of other pieces that have been on display for viewing outside the grounds of the Visitor’s Center. For over 50 years, Baron has created art in bronze and stone sculptures, pen and ink drawings, and photographs and he will soon be having a show at the El Paso Museum of Art. According to a news release, support for this exhibition is provided by the Mellon Foundation, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the El Paso Museum of Art Foundation, and the City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department.
The Great American Duck Race is hosting their 4th Annual Great American Duck Race Skateboard Competition on August 26th from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the Luna County Skate Park. The event is open to all ages from beginners to advanced and the entry fee is school supplies. There will be two 60 second runs and a best trick contest.
